Habitat for Humanity Huron County Selects 2009 Partner Family

Monday May 25th, 2009

Habitat for Humanity Huron County (HFH HC) has announced that it has selected the
partner family for its 2009 build in Exeter. Michelle Lovie and her two children, Mazie
and Jake, is the family that will soon be living in the Habitat house currently being built
on Wellington Street in Exeter. Michelle and her children are excited and looking
forward to their new Habitat home. Michelle explained, "I want to say thank you from the
bottom of my heart. The sacrifices of time and energy are priceless and we will always
remember the helping hands that lifted us up."

Michelle grew up in the Grand Bend area and has lived in South Huron for most of her
life. She is very much involved with the Guiding units in Exeter and has been a Guide
leader for five years now. She helps to plan and organize events for the girls. This year
at camp, she is helping the girls work on a very special Challenge Badge, the Habitat
for Humanity Challenge Badge.

Daughter Mazie turns thirteen this year and is already a typical young teen; she enjoys
her time with friends, sleepovers, crafts, scrapbooking and other creative activities.
Jake is eleven this year and loves Lego! Jake meets the challenges of autism with
determination and courage and is progressing well with his communication skills.

When Michelle first learned about her selection as this year's partner family, she said,
"At first I didn't quite understand and I had to think about it for a minute before it sunk
in. I was very surprised and when I told my daughter, she screamed for joy! I had her
tell my family who were all overjoyed. We are very honoured. My kids have shared a
room for many years and now they will be able to have some space. This move will be
very good for our family and will get us out of a very stressful environment."

This will be the organization's fifth house since its inception five years ago. The 2010
build is slated for Seaforth. Selecting the partner family is always a difficult process,
explained members of the Family Selection Committee. "If the members of this
committee had their wish, we would build homes for many more families each year, but
unfortunately this is not possible." Habitat housing is available to all qualified applicants
and careful consideration is given to each application.

More information about Habitat can be found on the organization's newly revamped website.
